trade for Mats Zuccarello, he's got more left in the tank

While I like Perrault, it's the wrong take to say the Pens would have to add. An injury prone player over 30 with a pricey contract that has 2 years remaining... Brassard is at least equivalent in skill at a more important position on a cheap expiring deal. Worth way more to Winnipeg than Perrault.

I'd love to get him if he could play the left side. Exact type of player the Pens need but they already have plenty of quality RWs.

JMO.... The Pens should be looking for players under 30. Especially if there's term remaining on their deals.

Eh, idunno. Brassard has sucked but I feel like taking a gamble that he may regain form is a smarter play than going down a center for a winger. I was a fan of Sheahan's last year and thought he played admirably at 3C, but I'm not sure I want to ride that into the playoffs given how he's played albeit out of position.

I have a really bad feeling about trading Brassard. Can't shake it haha.

If he's not bringing back a C, I want to keep him.

So if Perreault is no go for C*, then no.

*Yahoo fantasy has him as C, LW, RW...he has only won 24 FO's this year.

We don't have a snowball's chance in hell to land Little. He's their 2C.

It’s really tough to say. Winnipeg doesn’t need that much to make their cap work. They can pay someone to take Kulikov (who isn’t as bad as Mason so wouldn’t cost them as much), all signs point to Trouba being dealt in the offseason as he doesn’t want to stay in Winnipeg which has been well known for a long time, which means they may re-up Myers, get a haul for Truba. While I agree that Perreault makes too much for his 3rd line usage, he is an absolute huge posssssion driver and is always above his teammates. He definitely has value to playoff teams that need depth scoring (hello Dallas!). The Jets also have Little who’s healthy this year and is on pace for 49 points, not terrible for a 2C. They need a more offensive minded 3C and maybe they reduce Scheif’s minutes down from almost 23 a night. Perreault is 8th in Jets scoring and is on pace for 31 points. That’s what you expect from a 3rd liner but he’s handsomly paid and the Jets likely won’t retain salary. He’s still only 31 and has produced more in the past so he’s likely a top 6 option in Pitt. In the past he was on roughly 55 point pace in consecutive seasons but he always gets hurt.

I don’t agree that Brassard for a year is more valuable to them to take away from Winnipeg’s depth on the wing for 2.5 seasons when they have other options at moving out salary

To be fair, how many seasons have we been saying "Trouba will be dealt in the offseason" for?

Agreed but the cost to acquire Zucc I imagine would be quite high. A problem that Pittsburgh has when looking at any of these guys is we need 5v5 scoring since our PP1 is already set. Mats does a ton of his damage on the powerplay. He has 13 ES points this season in 35 games. Hornqvist has 20 in 36 games. I imagine Mats goes for a 1st plus based off what guys like Hanzal and Vermette have brought in the past. Everything I’ve seen on Mats shows he’s a great character/locker room guy as well

If Perreault and Brassard are similar. Why wouldn't the Jets keep Perreault and sell him in the offseason for something relatively cheap? That way they keep a player who's "sames" and get something over the summer for him as a rental.

Unless the savings in salary THIS year really makes that much difference. It's a little over a million but then only what's remaining of that $1 million.

We would have to add a lot more to that deal I’m thinking. Maatta, Rust, a 1st, and a prospect for Trouba and Perreault or something makes sense but that might put us in a sticky cap situation down the line where we would likely entertain trading Hornqvist or doing a large downgrade when Schultz expires

Depends on who “we” is. The big one when he wasn’t re-signing is obviously the standout. There hasn’t been a need to trade him since then since they figured out their TOI on the right side issue. Now that he’s going to want upwards of $7.75MM AAV or whatever and again doesn’t want to stay there (this narrative hasn’t seemed to have changed) then it makes sense to trade his rights. I’m honestly thinking that Winnipeg might trade his rights to move way up in the draft this year and they might just keep Myers for another few seasons at a lower cap hit if they can. Morrissey is awesome and it looks like he’s going to continue trending upward.

I think WPG is absolutely in on Brass but I don’t think they’re going to offer much. I bet they lowball us. I bet if they’ve talked an extension with Tanev that he probably wants a big raise. He’s trending up to be a poor mans Ferland and would likely want maybe $2.75MM whereas Ferland is rumored closer to $6MM. Maybe if they already know they can’t keep him they offer us Tanev (who they indeed love but probably can’t keep) and a 4th rounder. Is that worth it? Unless we plan on extending him for our 3rd line next year then no, I don’t think he is

I don’t think they are similar all that similar and rn I think Perreault holds a fair bit more trade value because he’s obviously not a rental. If WPG wants to go all in this year (before a Trouba/Laine increase) I could see them TRYING to trade a 2nd+ for Brass and shipping Perreault and a 1st over to Philly for Simmonds and a pick, maybe it’s a 2nd or a 3rd

Just to be clear: I don’t think the Jets should go after Simmonds (as I noted above) but I could definitely see them having a sort of an “all in before big changes come” attitude. Chevy has never been this way before but it’s possible
